Danniella Westbrook says she initially turned to drugs to help her cope with her cancer diagnosis.
The actress is battling womb cancer and admitted that she fears she is going to die like her friend and Big Brother star Jade Goody.
The 44-year-old said she collapsed in pain while in the UK and was taken to hospital by Kerry Katona, and it was when she flew to Spain that she had the devastating news.
She admits she turned to cocaine at first because she wanted to ‘numb everything and get drunk’, but now she is focused on fighting the disease.
‘After what happened with Jade I was frightened to talk to anyone about my cancer at first. She was my friend and what happened was so awful,’ she told The Mirror.
‘I’ve tried to commit suicide before but getting this diagnosis has made me realise I don’t want to die.
‘I want to live and sort out my health. I know I have to fight, I know I have to get up and battle it.’
Jade died at the age of 27 in 2009 after battling cervical cancer.
However Danniella says she’s ‘hopeful’ for the future as doctors have said they believe the cancer is ‘containable’.
She will undergo a full hysterectomy in three weeks’ time.
Danniella, who is best known for playing Sam Mitchell in EastEnders, previously sparked concern among fans after posting a string of messages referring to fighting cancer.
Have the power and strength to say this is not how my story will end … giving up is not an option ❤️❤️❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/o1dBxrDhtC

Westbrook captioned one image on Twitter with the message: ‘Have the power and strength to say this is not how my story will end… giving up is not an option.’
On the image itself was another message, which read: ‘Hey Cancer! Quit while you can. You’re never going to beat her. ‘She’s too strong for you!’
Earlier this year, Danniella had voiced concerns over how her health issues could be cancer.
Speaking to The Mirror, Danniella said: ‘I’ve had quite a lot of problems actually I think I might need to have a hysterectomy because I’ve been bleeding for the last nine weeks constantly.
‘But they do think it’s hereditary in my family, ovarian cancer and cancer of the womb, so we’re hoping it’s not that.’Advertisement
